The Democracy Defender Award honors a person or group for exceptional contributions to the promotion of democracy and the defense of human rights in the spirit of the Helsinki Final Act and other OSCE principles and commitments.
A panel discussion entitled “Role of Law: When Protection Becomes Constraint” kicked off the event and featured distinguished panelists Brigitte Dufour, Director of the International Partnership for Human Rights, Nadeja Hriptievschi, Director of the Legal Resources Center from Moldova, Jacob Mchangama, Director of Justitia, and Baris Altintas, Co-director of the Media and Law Studies Association in Turkey.
